THE 1ST IN A SERIES OF ARTS CENTER CONCERTS to benefit the planned Chesterfield Center for the Arts was held on the Green in front of the Chester LIbrary, where the Arts Center will be built. A small but enthousiastic crowd thoroughly enjoyed the performance by the VCU Jazz Trio. Food and drinks were available from a Chick-Fil-A booth. (The Center for the Arts Foundation is required to raise $2 million toward construction, while the county will provide the rest (estimated at $8.9 million or more) through a bond issue.)

ANOTHER CAR BREAK-IN

From the police blotter, as reported on June 11 by The Village News:

"Village Creek Dr., 5/30/08, Chester Village Green. Property reported stolen from unlocked tan 2003 Chevrolet Malibu. Vehicle was parked in victim’s driveway." [Emphasis added.]

In recent months, a number of car burglaries have occurred in CVG. In most cases, the car was unlocked. Most of us think that a car is safer in our driveways (e.i., the garage apron) than when when parked in the street. That is not necessarily true.

Vigilance is also necessary. Remember that only residents are allowed in the driveways behind our houses. If you see strangers (non-residents) walking or driving on these driveways (or any other suspicious activity), call your Neighborhood Watch Block Captain (see list in left side panel).

FOUNTAIN REPAIRS COMPLETED

Repairs have been completed, and today (Thursday, June 12), our beautiful fountain is working again, gracing the entrance to Chester Village Green, and also doing its important job of filtering and aerating the water in our lake.

FURTHER DEVELOPMENTS ON NORTH-SOUTH PKWY IMPACTING OUR VILLAGE

A petition seeking community-friendly design for this four-lane, divided roadway which will border Chester Village Green and go through the heart of Chestrer, is available by clicking on the following link:

A very large number of signers are needed to be able to influence the road planners. Please spread the word and the petition link, and print the petition and circulate it. Decisions will be made this summer!

The Chester Business Association considers the issue at their June 3 meting.

Our Bermuda District Supervisor, Dorthy Jaekle, indicated her support of a pedestrian friendly road, and wants to work to achieve the balance of a road that will relieve traffic woes but not disrupt the Chester Community. She encourages everyone to be involved in the planning of this road.
