UPDATE ON FOUNTAIN SQUARE BUILDING COLLAPSE


1)The structural engineer hired to ascertain the cause of the collapse will release his findings on Monday, Sept. 22.
2) A Grand Jury is investigating the collapse.


3) The FARMERS MARKET will resume on Saturday, October 4.


4) Michelle Fowler, co-owner of the Fowler's Village Pub (which was nearing completion in this collapsed complex) said, ". . . we think, barring any unforeseeable problems in the future, the best thing to do is to move forward".


5) There are indications that the brick building at the end closest to the library has not sustained structural damage. The new office of The Village News is due to move into that building.

NORTH/SOUTH BRANNER STATION PARKWAY ON AGENDA


The Chester Community Association will meet on Thur., Sept. 25, 7:00 pm, at the Village Hall (office of the Center for the Arts). The agenda will be the
Branner Station North-South Parkway which will affect Chester Village Green. This will be an open meeting.

COLLAPSED BUILDING AREA FENCED OFF

The entire Fountain Square Plaza area (site of the collapsed building) has been closed off with a new chain link fence. (See more photos at: http://picasaweb.google.com/cvgnews/CVGNews#5245536584083503682 )


Traffic is routed through the library parking lot.

MANDATORY WATER RESTRICTIONS LIFTED

Chesterfield County has lifted water-use restrictions, effective Sept. 11. Due to recent rainfall, the level of the James River has risen and is now at a more stable level.

CHESTERFEST CANCELLED "UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE"


Because of the building collapse on Sept. 10 (see story, below), the Chester Community Association has cancelled "until further notice" the annual ChesterFest originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 13 on our village green.


However, the CVG Residents' Cookout & Get-Together will be held in the Commons area between Village Garden Drive and Chester Village Drive, as scheduled, beginning at 5:00 pm.

Around Noon time on Wed., Sept. 10, the center building in the new Fountain Square row (still under construction) at Chester Village Green, running from Chester Village Drive to Centre St., collapsed. One worker died. For details, click on the following link:

FENCES IN EASY LIVING SECTION TO BE CLEANED ON WED., 9/10/08


A contractor has been hired to clean the fences in the Easy Living Section on Wed., 9-10-08. He will using a small amount of water from the homes in the area to accomplish the task. If anyone has a concern, please contact Howard Corey, HOA President, 11507 Village Garden Dr., 454-0602. The contractor has been highly recommended.

HOA BOARD MEETING REPORT


The Chester Village Green Home Owners Association Board of Directors met on Wed., Sept. 3, 7:00 pm, at Village Hall, the office for the Chester Center for the Arts (pictured at left).


1) Treasurer's report: By the HOA By-laws, the Board has the authority to levy fines and interest charges on over due
Association dues. That process will begin soon. Details will be included in the next monthly billing.

---A financial statement was given to all members in asttendance. Those who were not there can obtain copies from any of the officers or the manager listed in the HOA Board section in the left panel.

2) Committee Reports:
--Neighborhood Watch is trying to get an accurate police report for CVG.
--The new CVG Directory committee needs help soliciting advertisers.
--The Landscaping Committee is meeting with the provider regularly. Some lawns look neglected. Trying to get that corrected. The pond looks better as a resujlt of chemical treatment. The wetlands need to be cleaned out.

VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE MONDAY, OCT. 6 FOR NOV. ELECTIONS


How to Register to Vote


In order to register to vote, a Virginia Voter Registration Application must be completed in full and submitted to the local office of the General Registrar.


Application forms may be obtained through the following:
--(Click on:) Go to the Virginia State Board of Elections site to download Voter Registration Forms
--Any Chesterfield Public Library
--Any office of DMV
Any General Registrar's Office - it need not be the Chesterfield Office
By mail from the General Registrar - call (804) 748-1471

The application form may be submitted by mail or in person. Once submitted, you WILL receive a reply - either a denial or a voter registration card. If you do not receive any response within 2 weeks, contact the office of the General Registrar. Denials are usually the result of not completing the application in full. Please be sure to answer EVERY question and sign the application.

The final day to register to vote in a general or primary election is on the 29th day prior to the election. (In 2008, this is Mon., Oct. 6.) (The registration books are closed during the 28 days preceding a general or primary election.) Those persons not registered by that deadline will not be eligible to vote in this year's election.


You may also vote by Absentee Ballot for any reason, even for convenience. The Absentee Ballot request form can be found by clicking on the following link:



The Registrar’s Office – located at 9848 Lori Road in Court Square - will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on October 25 and November 1 for absentee voting. Call 748-1471 for directions.
