POLL RE-OPENED, Please Vote: SHOULD OUR HOA TAKE A POSITION ON THE PROPOSED ELECTRONIC SIGN?

At its meeting on Nov. 4, the five-member board decided to hold a special meeting on Wed., Dec. 2, 7:00 PM, on whether or not to take a position on the electronic sign being proposed for Rt. 10 near Chester Village Dr., when it comes up before the county Board of Supervisors, --and, if so, what that position should be.

The Board asks that home owners vote their opinion in the column to the left, as guidance for the Board before its meeting. Only one vote per home owner will be accepted. Please answer BOTH questions (select ONE answer for #1, #2, OR #3, and ONE answer for #A OR #B). The voting was closed briefly on Nov. 3, but has been re-opened until Dec. 2.
(Sorry about the misspelling of "approval" in the headline, but no editing/correcting is possible after voting has begun.)

For more information about the proposal, read the story below, headed,

"Report on Electronic Sign Meeting".

I want to thank you for this opportunity to express my feelings about the electronic sign to be posted at the outskirts of our community. I am a new homeowner in the wonderful Chester Village and am completely proud to tell people I live in Chester. I am opposed to the sign being put in because it makes our lovely and genteel community look like a Midlothian Turnpike sideshow. This community is sought after because of its refined atmosphere, our beautiful landscaped homes, the awareness and reality of safe and secure family living. Do we really want to make it an advertised “get yer chips ‘ere” blinking LED in red lights district?

I believe the current stores already anchored here have not suffered in the past because they didn’t have a circus sign flashing their existence, luring disinterested passers-by to come in and try their wares or be the newest entity for some folks in town to take target practice on. As I saw it and continue to see it, Chester Village Green and it’s surrounding merchants were designed to be today’s gracious, congenial, and modestly upscale neighborhood. And when the classic and cultured Chesterfield Center for the Arts buildings are completed, no one will need to have a distractive, distasteful, obnoxious neon scoreboard to have them turn their heads to come our beautiful village way. In closing, that sign is just plain offensive. Thank you again for allowing me a voice and a vote. Most Sincerely, Barbara Lynch

We have been very disappointed in the overall look of the neighborhood since the first "Chester Perks" lighted sign was placed. The large, lighted signs do not go with the architectural look of the community. There are many signage options other than "contemporary lighted signs". Of course, the collapsed apartment concrete walls are the real eye catcher in the supposed "upscale" hood. Maybe we should start over.

Received statement and newsletter yesterday afternoon urging homeowners to vote on sign. This morning, vote poll already closed. I VOTE NO.

The poll is confusing.... One has to vote yes to oppose.

It is not confusing. The question is simple: "Do you OPPOSE aproval (by the county Board of Supervisors) of an electronic sign at Rt. 10 & Chester Village Drive?
Answer YES of NO.
